Poor Father Valen, he actually drank before he became abbot and in charge of this mess, it actually lead to his being chosen to be in charge of this mess. (He had the misfortune of signaling the brother with the whine when the abbot was asking for a volunteer.) But the job would lead him to drink even if he'd been a teetotaler before. I am certainly hoping that Loki stays out of lets kill everybody mode! I don't know that I can handle another a murderous spree. (I'll let you guess if that's Morgaine's murderous spree or my own. It's more fun that way.)

We'll find out what was twisting Remi's knickers in a bit too, but given his goals, he needs to dispose of those books before he can kick stage two into gear. But Valen is onto him, so...

At the request of the demigoddess, Galahad was sainted as well. I honestly don't know if there's an opposite to a saint or not, but certainly there are some people from Albion's founding that history doesn't view fondly and rank up there with the cow demons for evil incarnate.

Sara-Beth wants him to get that education and doesn't begrudge working while he gets it one bit. If she wanted to get married and have kids and what not, it isn't Darin that's stopping her, but he doesn't see it that way.

Thanks, Van.

Yep, I'm back! And glad to be. I missed writing, a lot.

I'm also glad that my first foray into writing in your world hasn't made you start regretting "lending" me the Albionese universe! We'll be seeing a bit more of Darin here in the not too terrible far off future. (The next three updates are spoken for, but the one after that should at least have him in it.) But yes, Darin has a real talent for flying under the radar. People should see him, but for some reason they often don't, it'll serve him well, I imagine.

Oh, Johnny will probably run poor Raven to the edge of her sanity before it's all done, but I'm sure that Eric will do what he can to bring her back.

Sara-Beth had to work, she knows Darin feels guilty when she works extra hours, so she doesn't usually tell him. And he usually doesn't notice because he doesn't usually check in on her before he heads to class, he'd rather have the extra five minutes of sleep.

Yes, there are lots of doors that the education he's slandering will open for him that would remain closed if he dropped out, but as he's looking at it, he could be learning a trade or getting himself apprenticed and by the time he's graduated, the best of those will be filled. He is kinda missing the connection that he could get that higher level job with an education.

And yep, he has very good neighbors to have if you have to live in a not so great 'hood.

Thanks, Morgaine!

Ah, this was brilliant! :)

Well, at least sex with Franny-Pants seems to be keeping Brother Loki from going on another murderous rampage? That was awesome, the placement of the elusive broom right there. No wonder indeed why Father Valen drinks, but Father Valen does seem like an interesting character--the Ethical Drunk. Wonder what Remi had his knickers in a twist about. The bone phone, perhaps? The writings of Lady Dindrane or Lady Morgan or Supreme Overlord of the Universe Galahad?

Congrats to Betsy and Father Hugh on gaining sainthood! Did any other Albion characters get a similar nod? I'm guessing one or two got the, um... opposite nod (do saints have an opposite?).

Darin is an interesting narrator. He has this scholarship, and he's quite clever, but he's very pessimistic about his education. And he feels guilty about his sister. Poor kid. I'm sure his sister is happy to work while he gets his education, and Kellie's right; if Darin works hard, he might pull them both into a better place.

And my "son" the little nudist! My self-sim's family is looking quite good! I really like the dress you have Raven wearing (and I must have that hair!).

Great start! :)

And you are BACK! Back with a vengeance!

Ha ha, I loved it all! Albion 500 years on is certainly an interesting place! I can't wait to find out more about River Sulis and the people in it. Darin in particular seems like a good POV character; he seems to see everything, hear everything, and have a kind of invisibility about him when he's not in his home neighborhood.

Speaking of which -- LOL at Johnny! (Never thought I'd say that ...) What a cute little nudist! He's going to make his poor mother tear her hair out before he's done, won't he? And what a pity it would be. She's got such nice.

Though, I have to wonder -- if Sara-Beth is usually a morning person, where was she? Already heading off to work?

And Darin, don't be so down on your education. True, you might not make it to Camford. (Though you never know. Somebody could be willing to pay your way.) But a good education could get you a nice job as a clerk or a scribe or secretary -- and it could get you out of the neighborhood you're in, and probably get Sara-Beth out.

Although ... if he's stuck in that neighborhood, at least he's got good neighbors?

Still. It's great to see you back, Andavri!
